What We Believe

Our Statement of Faith

WORDCOMM’S STATEMENT OF FAITH

The Statement of Faith of Word Community Church is based on the Word of God alone. We categorically abide by these non-negotiable beliefs of our church.
  • In essential beliefs, we have unity. (Ephesians 4:4-6)
  • In non-essential beliefs, we have liberty. (Romans 14:1 12,14, 22)
  • In all our beliefs, we show charity. (1 Corinthians 13:2)
In documenting these indispensable beliefs, we follow these unifying Biblical convictions:
* - for a more comprehensive and in-depth description of what our Elders believe, we stand by the historic, Reformed Confessions of the Faith (Westminster Confession, 1689 London Baptist Confession, Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, and others as such).

These confessions serve as instrumental sources, but we also believe in the value of making our own statement that is deeply defining, considering our own history as a local church.

We believe that our statement is enough for us to welcome those who are starting in the faith so we could walk with them into the deeper topics of theology and Christ.
01

About the Word of God

We believe that the Bible, composed of the 66 Canonical books of the Old and New Testaments, is the divinely inspired and inerrant Word of God in the original manuscripts. We look to it as the decisive authority for faith and practice. In upholding the truth of God’s Word, we reject all philosophies, worldly rhetoric and belief systems that run contrary to Scriptures.

(2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12; Romans 10:17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 1 Peter 1:23)

02

About God

We believe there is only one true, living and sovereign God, Creator of all things, the Alpha and Omega, the great I AM. We further believe in the unity of the Triune God, three persons in one God that share one divine nature- God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit; omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, eternal, unchanging, perfect in all his ways, in love, mercy, goodness, holiness, justice, truth and grace.

(Jeremiah 10:10; Revelation 22:13; Exodus 3:14; John 8:58-59; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Isaiah 40:28; James 1:17; Psalm 139:1-4; 7-10)

03

About Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, both fully God and fully man, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. Although co-equal with God, he became man in accordance with the Father’s plan. He lived a sinless life on earth and voluntarily gave up his life by his death on the Cross for the atonement of all sin, thus satisfying divine justice and providing salvation for mankind.

(John 1:1-14; Matthew 1:18-25; Philippians 2:6-1; 1 John 3:5; 1 Peter 3:18; John 10:17-18; 2 Corinthians 5:21)

We further believe as stated in Scriptures that Jesus resurrected from the dead on the third day, after a time he bodily ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father and is the only Mediator between God and man. He will return not as Savior but as Judge and fully establish his kingdom upon the earth.

(1 Corinthians 15:4; Luke 24:36-43; Acts 1:9-11; Ephesians 1:20; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 19-22)

04

About the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit indwells and seals every person that accepts the saving work of Jesus Christ. He convicts believers concerning sin, righteousness and judgment; draws sinners to Christ and renews us; guides us into all truth, teaches, equips, empowers for righteous living and godly service and gives gifts to all believers to build and edify the body of Christ on earth.

(Ephesians 1:13-14; John 14:17; 15:26; Jude 3:5-6; 16:7-15; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11)

05

About Salvation

We believe that only those who acknowledge their sins, repent of them and accept Jesus Christ by faith as Lord and Savior are truly forgiven, become children of God, reconciled to God, justified, sanctified and spiritually reborn. Faith in Jesus Christ alone is the only condition of salvation, not good works, religious ceremonies or any human merit, although good works and godliness are evidences of such faith.

(Ephesians 2:8-10; 2 Corinthians 5:18-2; Romans 8:14-17, 29-30; John 3:8)

06

About the Image of God

We believe that our Sovereign God created mankind in his image. He wonderfully and immutably created each person either male or female, commanding them to be fruitful, to multiply and fill the earth. We further believe that it is God who assigns gender upon conception to be either male or female and we reject any transformation whether in thought or deed to change the image he purposefully intended for each human being at birth. We submit to God’s sovereign choice of the gender he assigns each individual.

(Genesis 1:27-28; Psalm 139:13-16; Romans 1:24-27)

06

About Sexuality and Marriage

We believe that the term “marriage” is the union of one biological man and one biological woman, whom God said shall become one. (Genesis 2:22-25) God intends for man and his wife to enjoy sexual intimacy exclusively under the auspices of marriage.

(1 Corinthians 7:25; Hebrews 13:4)

We believe that any form of sexual activity outside of marriage, whether premarital, heterosexual, homosexual, including but not limited to fornication, adultery, incest, concubinage, pedophilia, orgy, bestiality, polyamory, lewd contact, transgender behavior goes against the teaching of the Bible and is considered abominable in the eyes of God. We will not tolerate any abuse, slander or oppression of fellow humans who are image bearers of God. We must, however endeavor to speak the truth with respect and if need be, admonish in love.

(Exodus 20:14, 17; 22:19; Leviticus 18:22-23, 20:13, 15, 16; Matthew 19:4-6, 9; Romans 1:18-31; 1Corinthians 6:9-10; 1Timothy 1:8-11; Jude 7; Ephesians 4)

06

About Man, Sin, and Guilt

We believe that by his direct act, God created man in his image and likeness, therefore man possesses infinite worth and dignity. He also gave man free will thus when the first Adam, together with Eve chose to disobey God, they fell into sin and incurred physical and spiritual death, which separated them from God. Their seed of sin and guilt is transmitted to their descendants; therefore, all human beings are born with a sinful nature. Only Jesus Christ can redeem us from the penalty and power of sin by his shed blood on the Cross.

(Genesis 1:26-27; 2:15-17; 3:1-24; Romans 5:12-21; 1 Corinthians 15:21-22; Ephesians 1:7)

06

About The Church

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Head of the church, his Body of believers, abiding in him through saving faith. The universal church transcends all cultural, historical, national and personal distinctions. As members of the church it is our duty to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Our mandate is to make disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are called to proclaim that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and Life and in the context of community life, to love one another, building up his Body by the exercise of spiritual gifts.

(Colossians 1:18, 3:11; Ephesians 1:22-23; Matthew 28:18-20; John 14:6; 1 Corinthians 12)

06

About Christian Hope and the Life to Come

We believe that Christian hope is founded in the fulfillment of God the Father’s plans and purposes in history by bringing all things in their consummation in Christ. This hope, sealed by the Holy Spirit in our hearts, is a holy motive for righteous living and godly conduct. We further believe that Christ will return and call all believers to fullness of eternal life, to enjoy his presence and reign with him forever. On the other hand, unbelievers will be judged for their sins and suffer everlasting separation from God and eternal punishment.

(Ephesians 1:9-10, 13-14, 5:1-2; Galatians 5:5; Revelation 22:12, 20; 2 Timothy 2:12; Revelation 2:26-27, 20:11-15, 21:8)

06

About the Ministry

We believe we are called to witness to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and to serve the body of believers in love with whatever gifting we receive from the Holy Spirit. Christ has called those who are set apart to pray, preach the Gospel, equip and shepherd the flock of believers.

(Mark 16:15-16; Acts 1:7-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-1; Romans 12:3-8; Galatians 5:13-14; Ephesians 4:11-12; 1 Peter 5:1-5; Titus 1:5-9)

06

About The Sacraments

We believe Jesus wants us to observe two sacred rites, namely Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Although not a condition for salvation, both baptism and observance of the Lord’s supper are a public declaration of our faith in God, by proclaiming our fidelity to Christ and expressing our gratitude for the sacrifice of Jesus that atoned for our sins. Baptism symbolizes the believer’s identification with Christ in his death and resurrection. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we commit to die to sin, self and the world. The Lord’s supper is our way of remembering what Jesus had to suffer- his body was broken and his blood was shed that we may be reconciled to our Abba Father.

(Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-25; Colossians 1:19-20)

06

About Sanctification and Power for Service

We believe that every believer must constantly walk in God’s light, living continually in the power and control of the indwelling Holy Spirit so that we will not be a slave to the lust of the flesh but rather bear fruit to the glory of God. As kingdom citizens, we should strive to live out the Be-attitudes in our lives and let the fruit of the Spirit grow and be evident.

(1 Peter 1:14-16; Romans 12:1-2; 1 John 1:6-7; Matthew 5-7; Galatians 5:22-24)

06

About Angels

We believe that angels are spiritual beings who serve God and carry out his missions as messengers, guardians and army. Satan and demons are fallen and doomed angels who, together with other evil spirits promote wickedness and oppose God’s rule and purposes.

(Psalm 91:11; Luke 1:26-38; Jude 1:6, 9; Revelation 12:7-9; Hebrews 1:6-14)

06

About Divine Healing and Health

We believe that in his mercy, grace and sovereign will, God can choose to heal the sick for his glory and for the spiritual benefit of the healed person. By faith, our elders anoint with oil and pray for the sick among us. The healing is solely God’s.

(James 5:14-16; John 9:1-7)

06

About Government and Society

We believe that Christians have a duty to respect and pray for those in government authority and to help promote righteous principles in society. However, if the government is in direct defiance of God’s Word, our allegiance is to God and his commands must take precedence over human authority.

(Romans 13:1-7; Matthew 5:13-16; Acts: 5:27-29)
